What are the most expensive sports to take part in?
OK let’s take a moment to explain what we are trying to discuss here.
When we say expensive we are talking about how much it costs the individuals to take part in the sport. We are not talking about the owners or the sponsors of the team.
So let's get started
It not rocket science, or maybe it is. Basically any sport which requires some sort of fast heavy vehicle is expensive.
- To name a few:
- Motor car racing
- Airplane racing
- Helicopter racing
- Yacht racing
- Powerboat racing
There is one exception Horse related sports, these animals can be expensive too.
One expensive sport that stands out from the rest coming in first by a long way is Formula One (F1) racing.
To take part in a F1 race you'll need a car and a crew.
Let's take a look at what it might cost to run a crew based on a couple of manufacturing teams.
Redbull - 180 Million (Referenced here)
Mercedes - 2 cars at $229 Million each (reference here)
However you might be in luck FIA to make F1 more competitive is bringing in new rules. A cap, for 2021, will be set at $145m. That will reduce to $140m in 2022 and $135m from 2023 on-wards.
Therefore if you have a spare $135 Million you've just brought yourself a F1 season.

- NASCAR - $15 million
- V8 Supercar - $5 million
- Moto GP - $12 million
- Powerboat - $ 2 million (Boat alone)
